Queensland University Musical Society
powered by TidyHQAbout Us
QUMS is a community choir open to all members of the public regardless of age or musical ability, with no audition requirement. You don't have to be a UQ student or alumnus to join! New members are always welcome, so come and try us out - we would love to see you there! More information is available here.
In semester 1 of 2024, our major concert was titled Songbirds: Voices of Australia and featured works by Australian composers.
Our semester 2 major concert was titled Anthology: Verse Meets Chorus and featured works of poetry set to music, as well as a guest appearance by the wonderful poet Alessio Emanuele, and the premiere of QUMS' orchestra!
Between, before, and after our major concerts, we will compete at Eisteddfod over Easter, sing Christmas carols throughout December, get away for a weekend of rehearsal camp, enjoy a post-rehearsal coffee each week, make new friends, and have a lot of fun!
Rehearsal
QUMS rehearses at the University of Queensland (UQ) St Lucia Campus, on Wednesday nights from 7.00 PM to 9.30 PM with a break in the middle.
Rehearsals for Semester 2 2024 began on the 17th of July. We will rehearse in 11A-110/111 ModWest Building for most of the semester - but please check the calendar below in case we've had to move.
Our final rehearsal for 2024 was on December 4th - we will resume regular rehearsals in February 2025!
Calendar
Keep up to date with QUMS events with our official calendar.
The Queensland University Musical Society respectfully acknowledges the people of the Turrbal and Yuggera Nations, who are the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the land on which the choir gathers to rehearse and perform. We pay our respect to Elders past, present and emerging and honour the continuation of the oldest musical practice in the world.
